Hephaestus (Pronounced: huh-fes-tus)

 

 

 

Family:     Son of: Hera and, in some myths, Zeus. In other                                            myths, Hephaestus is simply fatherless.

                              Thaleia

 

               Consort: Aphrodite

Status: One of the Twelve Olympian Gods.

 

Title: God of Fire, the Forge, Metalworking, Building, the Fine                  Arts and Patron of both Smiths and Weavers.

 

Weapon of Choice: An Axe.

 

Symbols of Hephaestus: Hammer, Anvil, Tongs - Represents                                                    Hephaestus as a hard working                                                            craftsman.                 

Sacred Animal(s): Donkey - Hephaestus is often depicted riding                                a donkey in art.

 

Places of Worship: The Temple of Hephaestus, also known as the Hephaisteion, is one of the most well preserved temples that remains in the Ancient Agora of Athens. It was built in 415 B.C.E and in this time, there would have been many potters' workshops and metalworking shops near this temple.
