Dionysus (Pronounced: die-oh-nie-sees)

 

 

 

Family:    Son of: There are a few versions of the myth in                                             which Dionysus is born. Some myths state                                     that Zeus and Semele are the parents of                                         Dionysus. Other myths agree that Zeus was                                   the father but Persephone as the mother.

               Consort: Ariadne

 

 

Status: One of the Twelve Olympian Gods.

 

Title: God of Fertility, Wine, Madness, Drunken Revelry, Party and              Festivity.

Symbols of Dionysus: Thyrsus - Represents his relationship                                                   with farm and forest.

                                        Grapevine - Represents wine as he is the                                             God of Wine.

                                        Ivy Wreath - Represents immortality and                                               indulgence.

 

Sacred Animal(s): Panther - Dionysus is often depicted in a                                            chariot drawn by panthers.

                               Leopard - Represents wilderness and divine                                        madness.
